Q3

Q3
The audience research that was undertaken to get our final product I feel that this helped us a lot the main reason being it allowed me and Callum to decide what parts people preferred with a music promo whether that mainly performance based or narrative. From our research into the music promo we found that people like a good mix of performance and narrative.
Ways in which we went about our audience research was questionnaires. Which contained different questions such as what was you favourite thing to see in a music promo, your age, what genre of music you liked and other different questions which slowly helped us towards testing peoples expectations of our music promo Which helped us choose our song as the results showed that indie rock was a big favourite of everyone so we knew from this that we had chosen the correct song. And to know that we had the correct song we had a focus group listen to our song and give us feedback on whether they liked it or not so we knew whether we had the right band to back or not. With our focus group we tried tom make sure that we also used different questions about what they would want to see in our music promo and how to make it better with constructive criticism, this meant that from this audience research we felt we would get peoples raw views as from experience in our last assignment on making a thriller we felt that personal opinion can play a big role in what will help your music promo from being ok to real top quality production. So looking back at what we got from the focus group the results that we got from different individuals was that they liked the song. And also we needed plenty of different shot types however we new most of this and that it would be a lot of trial and error in the editing stage when making our piece what worked and what didn’t and we would know this from getting the focus group and questionnaire people back in and getting the advice we needed. If you were to look at some of the techniques used in the focus group sessions when asking this question so that no one influenced each other we did a quick fire thumbs up thumbs down this is a technique normally used in focus groups so no one influences each other and we get honest feedback.

If I was to make improvements on my audience feedback I would have made sure that I did more for my ancillaries the reason that we only did a focus group for information on ancillaries is because me and Callum felt that if we did our own research into different magazine adverts and Digipaks then we would get a good idea of what to do as the bands we analysed where bands such as the red hot chili peppers and vampire weekends which are successful bands and know what sells so if we were to pay homage to these great bands but put our own twist on our ancillaries then I felt we would be the ones that stand out on the market.

Other ways we got audience feedback was from putting snippets of our video on Instagram, which I left a comment asking people to leave a comment on our video about the video to tell us whether it was any good or if the liked it press the heart button from this we got great response and as this was during the editing process any feedback on changes we could make I could do so making our music video better. But with doing this I also used synergy as I left the hash tag will and the people and if you clicked on the hash tag you could see all the different people who had commented or put their own post up about the band so by me doing this it allowed my followers to learn about the band if they clicked on the hash tag. My reasoning behind doing this was mainly because by doing this you have a bigger target of people you are showing the music video to which means the feedback you get will not be from the same people in your group and we also got different people from up and coming bands who left a comment so we where able to change it to what there thoughts where which meant we would be at a greater chance of getting a higher mark on our production due to people in the industry giving us that constructive criticism.
Ways in which synergy is Synergy is the term used to describe a situation where different entities cooperate advantageously for a final outcome. Simply defined, it means that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts It’s the ‘strategy of synchronising and actively forging connections between directly related areas of entertainment’. New Technologies support this process – web, dvd, downloading. Media institution exploit various platforms to sell various products related to one film e.g. film and soundtrack and video gamegood as people were able to talk about what they like and what they felt we should change.  For these promos and ancillaries we were able to get some audience feedback by putting small parts of our music video on Instagram, Facebook or twitter which was This is why synergy is good as it allows people that you feel are your target audience talk about your project and help you change it for the better. And once finally completed our video was uploaded to YouTube and after the video had we said use the hashtag will and the people we can get others to spread the word about the video raising the popularity for the band also getting them publicised.

Q1 Editing and location

Editing:
The editing is where the magic happens for a music promo and you normally find that you’re editing and the pace of editing mainly relies on the type of song, style and pace of the music. You need to make sure that when editing you have the correct balance that will suit the song as you can find as we did we didn’t feel that the song we chose was a song for a strong narrative base and that we needed to hold off on these different sections and base our video on performance. However we had to make sure that we would still make our performance sections interesting and make sure that people felt that they could watch the videos up to seven times. To make sure we had interesting footage we did a poll to see what people like to see within a music video and the different shots that they would like to see to make our music video interesting. Then in the editing process we made sure that the lip sinking was correct and that when you had a close up on drums or guitar it matched the pace of the music, which really made us learn and appreciate the hard ship people put in for a music video as when filming you have the song in the background so that you know which bit you are at in the editing process and you can then dub the sound and overlay it at the end.

Location
We chose our location mainly to do with the songs lyrics, name of the song and who and where the band member came from. As the song was called holiday and being a British band we felt that the location had to be stereotypically British which was a British holiday resort and by the beach. I fell that if I could change anything I would not want to change where we filmed however I would want to make sure that the quality of the shots where better and we had even more footage as the more footage the more entertaining the music video will become.

Q1 Costume

Costume
Overview of costumes to be warns:
The idea is that there will be 2 different costumes being used, that of a smart/scruffy kind of look which will be suit and ties but wearing them as if you have just come back from a late night out partying. The reason for this is because it will suit our genre. And also it will suit the music video that we are doing as we are trying to make a video that revolves around a naff British holiday however we don’t want it all to be jokes as our audience will not appreciate it as it won’t be a good representation of the genre.  Costume can have a big play in the way that your music video goes and the genre of your music as our band is indie rock we felt that we had to match this look, which is smart scruffy. And also this influence was mainly because we felt that people would like it as indie rock and the indie look appeals the masses which means would have a greater target audience. If I were to change any of the outfits it would be that we changed clothes a lot more and had a larger Varity of outfits as we used a lot of cut shots and if we had changed outfit it would have made our music video more interesting.

Outfit 1
The main costume will be that of a sort of holiday/swimwear clothes such as shorts or a vest and sandals etc. This will be worn in the main narrative part when filming in the beach location.

Above shot is what we used in our actual music promo

Outfit 2
The second costume that will be used will be a smart but scruffy attire this will be mainly in the performance parts of the music video so that we stay true to our genre and so that the audience takes our music video seriously.

Q1 Narrative

Narrative:
If you are to look at the most promos now days you will find that videos vary so much by this I mean that they have a strong narrative medium narrative or no narrative you will normally find that song writers and or the band who perform or come up with the song if they believe that the song has a strong message you will find within the video that strong message is shown and it shows people the way that they want there song to be interoperated. For our music video we wanted the narrative to be the band performing on location, as the song is called holiday and is based around a naff British holiday we went to preform in that location.
